CV Help

  • List your details using basic headings like;-  Personal Details, Education and Training, Employment, and Leisure Interests.
  • You might add  Mission Statement, Professional Memberships, Skills List, Accomplishments and Referees
  • Personal details to include address and contact numbers including email.
  • List educational experience/qualifications with most recent first.
  • List each job starting with your current or most recent job. Remember that gaps in your employment record may be questioned at the interview.
  • For each job give dates, name of company, job title and brief description including main achievements
  • Provide a few lines about your leisure activities. What you say may form the basis of questions at interview!
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • If using email use standard computer packages to ensure easy opening by recipient
  • Do not make it difficult to read.  Keep it simple and avoid elaborate details, graphics, fonts etc .
  • If possible amend you CV to reflect the position you are applying for.

If you send a covering letter

  • Match your letter to the position applied for using key words and phrases in the job description.
  • Stress reasons why you want the job and the qualities you could bring to it.
  • Your salary expectations and your notice period.
  • How you can be contacted.
